Last Thanksgiving, my mom and I decided it was as good of a day as any to venture out two hours east to the San Bernardino Mountains and Big Bear. We weren’t planning on skiing or anything (in all honesty, I’m not sure what exactly it was we were planning on doing there), but driving through the mountains, we were so inspired by the miraculous views that we decided hiking was a new part of our nonexistent plan.
Arriving at Big Bear Lake, we drove for half an hour through the town area, which I have to say looked as though it was straight out of a 90’s Christmas-themed film. I adored it.
We then finally found a cute trail that was about a 3 mile roundtrip, which the boys complained about at first, but came around when we found a great viewpoint and some great rock-climbing opportunities.
I’d say Big Bear Lake is a nice place for a day trip from LA, San Diego, or any other surrounding SoCal town, but other than the views and maybe the skiing (in winter), I wouldn’t spend too much time there, as to me, I found it a little underwhelming. Peaceful, sure, but not a place loaded with adventure.
However, I’d recommend visiting at least once if you’re around the area, as those views are pretty killer.
These pictures are absolutely stunning! It’s hard to believe places like these actually exist, being from the prairies! Lovely post!
